Mary J. Vitril, 96, of Vitril Lane, Wampum (New Beaver Boro) passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, March 10, 2014.
Born December 5, 1917 in the family home in Wampum, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Sadie Pastin Vitril .
Mary retired in 1984 after 36 years of service as the head bookkeeper at People Bank (currently First Commonwealth) in New Castle. She worked for four generations of the Green Family, Adolph, Joe, Herman and Ross Green. She was a member of the former St. Monica Church in Wampum. Mary graduated from Wampum High School in 1936. She enjoyed traveling, cooking and baking. She loved spending time with her family and friends, and her dog, Pepe.
Survivors include a sister in law, Arlene Vitril; a nephew, Anthony “Skip” (JoAnn) Vitril; four nieces, Linda (Ron) Lape, Sandy Vitril, Karen Hummel, Cindy (Darrell) Matthews; three great nephews; two great nieces; one great great nephew; and five great great nieces.
She was preceded in death by four brother, Joseph W., John J.,Frank A.,and Harry E. Vitril; a sister, Anna “Dolly” Suzow; and a niece, Sandra Vitril in 1946.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday March 13 from 4 to 8 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 341 Main Street Wampum.
A Blessing Service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11 am with Rev. Father Nick Vaskov of St. Vincent dePaul Church officiating.
Interment will follow in St. Peters Mausoleum at Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
