Michael Vignovich, 88, of Byng St., Ellwood City died on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at his home following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born November 15, 1923 in Lowellville, Ohio, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Mildred Ecovich Vignovich. He was married 59 years to Gina Venezie Vignovich who survives.
Mike retired from Local 207 in Youngstown, Ohio where he was a structural iron worker. He was a proud Veteran of the US Army, serving his country during WWII in the European Theatre. He served on the Civil Service Commission, Ellwood City Borough Council, Ellwood City Hospital Board, Democratic Precinct Committee, and the Democratic Committee for the 5th Ward. He coached Little League baseball and was the umpire in chief. Mike loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchild. He was a devoted patron to all the High School Baseball, Basketball and Football games. He also enjoyed watching Storage Wars.
In addition to his wife, Gina, survivors include two sons, Michael (Lori) Vignovich of New Castle, Mark Vignovich of Houston, Texas; daughter, Marla (Tom) Wilson of Ellwood City; sister, Ann Vignovich Lemke of Ellwood City; brother, Martin Vignovich of Long Beach, California; four grandchildren, Kylea Vignovich, Jenna (her fiancée, Matt Schlieper) Wilson, Sophie Vignovich, Derek (Carrie) Wilson and one great grandchild, Dominic Wilson.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond, Nick and Sam Vignovich and one sister, Mary Cernus.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday August 14 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home. 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City.
Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:00 am with Rev. Richard Salley and Mike’s nephew, Pastor Carmen Venezie officiating.
Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Veteran’s Honor Guard
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics, which was Mike’s favorite charity or a charity of the donor’s choice..
