Nick Sbarro, 88, of New Castle, formerly of Chewton, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Jameson Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Born October 10, 1926 in Chewton, he was the son of the late Frank and Carmella Scala Sbarro Sr. He was married for 68 years to Frances Murphy Sbarro who survives.
Nick retired in 1991 from Medusa Cement Co. He had also worked at his family’s business, Chewton Dairy. Nick attended the Highland Church of God in New Castle. A Veteran of the US Navy, Nick served during both WWII and Korea. He was an avid Steeler and Pirate fan.
In addition to his wife, Frances, survivors include two sons, Rich (Nora) Sbarro of New Castle, Dr. Mark (Holly) Sbarro of St. Augustine, Florida; sister, Elsie King of California; and one grandson, Nickolas Sbarro of Florida.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Keith, Anthony, and Frank Sbarro, and three sisters, Esther Papa, Josephine Hervatine, and Mary DeMarc.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday February 15 from 2 until the time of the funeral service at 5 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 341 Main Street Wampum. Services will be conducted by Pastors Dennis Bupp and Ron Mounts. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery.
