Paul E. Mcelwain

Paul E. McElwain, 91, of Soap Run Rd., Fombell (Franklin Twp.) passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at his residence following a one year illness.

Born April 20, 1924 in Koppel, he was the son of the late Arthur and MaBelle Reeher McElwain. Paul was married for 63 years to Margaret Nye McElwain whom he married on August 22, 1952. She survives.

Paul retired from MSL Industries, formerly known as George K. Garrett Co. He also managed the Freeway Lanes in Zelienople from 1970 to 1979. Paul graduated from Lincoln High School. He served two tours of duty for his country, one with the Navy during WWII from 1942-1946 and the other with the Navy Reserves during the Korean War from 1951-1955. He was a member of Camp Run Presbyterian Church. Paul was active with the Ellwood City Historical Society, volunteering at their festival booth for many years. He served on the Riverside School Board from 1991-1996, one year as President. In his youth, Paul was an avid baseball player. He also coached baseball for many years including for the VFW Team that won the State Championship in the early 1950’s. Paul also enjoyed bowling and gardening. He sold his excess produce at his booth off of Soap Run Rd.

In addition to his wife, Margaret, survivors include three sons, Kenneth (Rebecca) McElwain of Fombell, Gary (Catherine) McElwain of Rochester Twp., Ronald (Deborah Diodati- fiancé) McElwain of Fombell; three sisters, Evelyn Mack, Shirley Brown, Beverly Barber, all of Ellwood City; six grandchildren, Pamela, Daniel, Gary Allen, Gregory, Samantha, and Dillion; and five great grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday October 22 from 2-4 and 6-9 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 11 am at the Camp Run Presbyterian Church with his pastor, Rev Andy Shaffer will officiate. Military rites will be offered by the Veterans Honor Guard.

Interment will follow in the Camp Run Church Cemetery.
