Phyllis M. Koach, 90, of Middletown, PA, formerly of Ellwood City passed away Friday, September 20, 2013 at the Middletown Nursing Home following an extended illness.
Born February 8, 1923 in Ellwood City, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Hazel Currie Adams. She was married for 33 years to the late Loyd G. Koach who passed away in 1978.
Mrs. Koach retired in 1988 from Shenango High School where she was a home economics teacher for 14 years. She graduated from Lincoln High School and earned her teaching degree from Penn State. She was a member of the Wurtemburg United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher and a member of the quilter’s circle. She was also a member of the Ellwood City Hospital Auxiliary and a driver for Meals on Wheels. Phyllis enjoyed traveling, exercising, and walking. She was devoted to her family and was known for her hospitality.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan (Michael) Geer of Harrisburg, Barbara (Mark) DeWitt of Pittsburgh; two sons, Jeffrey (Peggy) Koach of Elizabethtown, Daniel (Tess) Koach of Virginia Beach, VA; sister, Peggy (Lewis) Shirey of Poland, OH; brother, Charles Adams of CA; cousin, Shirley Blaine of Ellwood City; twelve grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Averal Rhea.
Friends will be received on Friday October 4, 2013 at the Wurtemburg United Methodist Church from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 am. Rev. Jean Smith will officiate. Interment will follow in Wurtemburg Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Ellwood City Public Library or the Wurtemburg United Methodist Church.
