Ray Weingartner

Ray Weingartner, 89, of Wayne Twp. passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the Golden Hill Nursing Center in New Castle.

Born November 28, 1925 in Wayne Twp.,he was the son of the late Jesse and Meryl Hazen Weingartner. He was married to Peggy Eichholtz Weingartner who passed away July 14, 2005.

Ray was a strong, yet kind and gentle man who loved his family dearly. He will be missed by all who knew him. Ray worked at the Ellwood City Forge for 38 years, retiring in 1987. He was also a life long farmer which was his first love, along with his garden and his famous raspberry jelly. Ray graduated from Lincoln High School in 1943. He was a member of the Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Lodge in New Castle, the Wayne Twp. Volunteer Fire Department, and the Ellwood City Saxon Club.

Survivors include two sons, Ed Weingartner of Woodbury, Minnesota, Rick (Terri) Weingartner of Wampum; siblings, Lois Harlan, Norma (John) Yoho, Harold “Bucky” (Delores) Weingartner, all of New Castle, and Arlene Shields of Punxsutawney; five grandchildren, Chad (Tami) Weingartner of New Wilmington, Andrew (Brandy) Weingartner of Bessemer, Sarah (Lee) Hentges of Bangor, Maine, Zach (Josie) Weingartner of Broomfield, Colorado, and Becca (Chris) Stone of Avon, Ohio; eight great grandchildren, Tylor, Emily, Nicole, Zane, Emerson, Smith, Fisher, and Perry. He is also survived by a special friend, Mary Dolter and her family.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by siblings, Fred and Clair Weingartner, Florence Nasti, and Lilabelle Weisz.

Friends will be received on Friday from 10 until the time of the funeral services at 11 at the Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church. His pastor, Rev. Julia Williamson will officiate.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Marshall Funeral Home, Ellwood City.

The family would like to extend their special thanks to the care givers at the Ellwood City Hospital, Golden Hills Nursing Home, and Gentiva Hospice for their loving and compassionate care during the last six weeks of Ray’s life.
