Richard L. “Ricky” Powell, 64, of Chewton died on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at the Heritage Valley – Beaver.  Although he had been in ill health, death was unexpected.

Born January 15, 1948 in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late Frank A. and Helen V. Butkevitz Powell.

Ricky formerly was employed at Babcock and Wilcox.  He then worked and retired from Ipsco – Koppel Works.  He had also worked for a period of time at Marshall Tree Service and Tony’s Distributor.  Catholic by faith, Ricky formerly attended St. Monica’s Church in Wampum.  An Army Veteran, he was stationed in Alaska for 18 months during the Vietnam War.   He was a member of the Chewton Polish White Eagles and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include two sisters: JoAnn Takas of Chippewa, Connie (James) Buchanan of Ellwood City;  brother, John “Bobby” Powell of Enon Valley; three nieces:  Coreen (Ron) Rozgonyi of Hudson, OH, Robin Morris of Broadview Heights, OH,  and Jodi (Jim) Sides of Ellwood City and a number of great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday August 5, 2012 from 2 to 6 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 341 Main Street Wampum.

A Blessing service will be held at the funeral home on Monday,  August 6, 2012 at 9:00 am.

Interment will follow in the Holy Redeemer Cemetery.  Military rites will be offered by the Veterans Honor Guard.
