Robert C. Doerr, 86, formerly of Wood St. Ellwood City died on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at the St. Clair Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

Born January 23, 1926 in Koppel, he was the son of the late William G. and Laura Zitzmann Doerr .

He was married for 49 years to Jane L. Hoffman Doerr who passed away on December 1, 2001.

Bob retired in 1974 following 31 years of service at US Steel. He then worked for 12 years and retired in 1988 from Armco Steel where he was the chief engineer. Mr. Doerr graduated from Lincoln High School in 1943. He attended Geneva College and then graduated from Carnegie Tech in 1954. He was a Registered Professional Engineer. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. He sang in the choir, was a member of the apple dumpling gang, and helped with the soup luncheons. He was a member of the Methodist Men, and was a delegate for the Methodist Conferences for many years. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge # 599 in Ellwood City. Robert was an avid golfer and pickle ball player. He enjoyed wood working. Bob was an avid Steeler and Pirate fan.

Survivors include 3 daughters – Roberta Jane (Thomas) Pronesti of Mercer, Candace L. (Richard) Mafrica of California, Rebecca A. (Gary) Campbell of Hudson, Ohio; son – William (Saundra) Doerr of South Fayette; 6 grandchildren – Laurelei and Tamara Pronesti, Maggie and Richard Mafrica, and Robert and Michael Campbell.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Doerr.

Visiting hours will be held Friday March 9, 2012 from 4 – 7 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City. A Masonic Service will be held at 7 pm.
Friends will also be received from 10:30 am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 on Saturday at the First United Methodist Church. Rev. Jim Cannistraci and Rev. P.A. Harmon will officiate.

Interment will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery.
