Robert H. Stahl

Bob Stahl formerly of Latrobe and Ellwood City passed away peacefully at his residence in Zelienople on Saturday, January 26, 2019. He always counted his blessings and birthdays in advance so he was officially in his 96^{th year.}

His faith was the cornerstone of his life and he tried to live his life by following the Golden Rule. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. He was an active member of Christ Presbyterian Church in Ellwood City where he served as an Elder, Sunday School Superintendent, member of the church choir and as one of the three Kings in the annual Boar’s Head Festival.

He had a wonderful life! He was born in Latrobe on August 10, 1923 to Carl and Constance Stahl. He had 3 brothers and 2 sisters and he outlived them all. He grew up in Derry and got his first job before graduating from high school working double duty for Elderton State Bank as their teller by day and their janitor by night.

Bob decided to enlist in the Navy in October 1942. He went to the Army office to sign up but since they were closed the Navy got a new recruit. He was stationed with the submarine service in New London, CT and Portsmouth NH until his discharge in 1946.

After his discharge from the Navy he found the love of his life at the First Presbyterian Church in Latrobe. He told everyone the moment he saw Dorothy singing in the quartet he knew he would marry her and in 1948 they were married. They had 3 daughters- a pair (of identical twins) and a spare.

Bob joined First National Bank after returning from the service and worked for many great banks and with many great people. Early in his career Bob work for Fred Rogers the father of “Mister Rogers” and he even taught him in Sunday school. Bob retired from First Seneca Bank in 1985 as a Regional Vice President.

In addition to his involvement with Christ Presbyterian Church he was actively involved with the Rotary Club, The Red Barn Theatre, the Masons, Connoquenessing Country Club and the “The Literacy Society”. He was an avid reader, loved to do Sudoku puzzles, made beautiful stained glass pieces and even tried to learn to play the piano at age 70. He enjoyed swimming and was a regular at Silver Sneakers. Bob was a true Leo and a spiffy dresser who always received compliments for his fashionable attire.

After retiring, Dorothy and Bob took to the road in their RV and traveled throughout the US and Canada and enjoyed spending their winters in Florida. They also traveled abroad with the Rotary Club. They loved playing golf, watching golf on TV and in person at The Masters and just enjoyed being together. They were always by each other’s side.

Bob will be missed dearly by his family but they know they will be reunited with him in the future. He leaves behind his beautiful wife Dorothy of 70 years; their daughters Sue Hoffman and Barbie Lovejoy; son in law, Dave Hoffman; granddaughters Kim Brant and Megan O’Hara; grandsons in laws Chad Brant and Phil O’Hara and 6 great grandkids, Jack and Mary Brant and Belle, Aidan, Brady and Quinn O’Hara.

He has been reunited with their daughter Linda Stahl who passed away in 2005.

Visitation will be held at the Marshall Funeral Home, 200 Fountain Avenue, Ellwood City on Tuesday, January 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. and at the Christ Presbyterian Church on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until a Celebration of Life service at 1 p.m. His pastor, Rev. Tod Custer will officiate. A Masonic Service will be held at 5 pm on Tuesday.
