Ronald John Kalac, 83, formerly of Ellwood City passed away Sunday, November 3, 2019 at Lakeview Personal Care Home in Darlington, PA.
Born October 28, 1936 in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late Mary Kalac Smith. He was raised by his Uncle Al and Aunt Kay (the late Albert and Catherine (Kalac) Emilko) in Wurtemburg. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn (Meyer) Kalac and second wife, Teresa (McGowan) Kalac.
Ron joined the US Army in 1954 and served his country for 20 years traveling the world serving in many overseas duty stations including German, Korea, and Vietnam where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for outstanding meritorious service against hostile forces. Following his retirement from the Army, Ron moved to Georgia to work as the General Manager for truck stops from Pennsylvania to Georgia. He then moved to Wyoming where he delivered cars for rental companies to Colorado and Nebraska. His love of traveling brought him from coast to coast and every place in between. Always on the move, never staying in one place for too long with family and friends spread throughout the country from Washington to Wyoming to Pennsylvania. He was an active lifetime member of the VFW and served as post Surgeon and Senior Vice Commander in local VFW Post 8106 in New Galilee.
Survivors include eight children, Ron (Chris) Kalac Jr. of Enon Valley, Albert (Jeannie) Kalac of Darlington, Heide Kalac, Cathy (Tim) Keolker, Bobby (Lori) Kalac, Joe Kalac, all of Tacoma, WA, Patrice Kalac of Omaha, NE, Allen Kalac of Caspar, WY; sixteen grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
Honoring Ron’s wishes, there will be no viewing or services. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Marshall Funeral Home. Final interment will be in The National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
