Rosella M. Shaffer Smith, 96, of Ellwood City, formerly of Wampum passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at UPMC Passavant Hospital surrounded by family following a brief illness.
Born May 3, 1919 in Ellwood City, she was the daughter of the late Robert Herring and Mary Jane McCauley Herring .
Rosella was a homemaker and also a retired custodian from the Riverside Area School District. She enjoyed playing bingo, crocheting, and reading. She cherished time spent with her family and her dogs.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol (Greg) Wood of Wexford; five grandchildren, Erin Wood, Justin (Jamie) Wood, Colby (Tonya) Wood, Jodi (John) Biedka, Joyce (Michael) Myers; eleven great grandchildren, Sean, Jason, and Matthew Myers, Charlie Kaufman, Michael Savage, Addison, Caiden, and Ian Wood, Amanda Kelly, Amber and Stephen Biedka; and five great great grandchildren, Dahlia Myers, Austin and Jayne Kaufman, Viridianna Savage, and Serenity Johnson
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 27 years, Russell Shaffer, son, William Lee Shaffer, and a granddaughter, Lee Ann Shaffer.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday November 28 from 10 am until the time of the funeral service at 11 am at the Marshall Funeral Home 341 Main Street Wampum. Pastor Tom O’Brien of the First Christian Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery.
