Shirley Ilene Price Shingleton

“My love and peace to you on this special day. At 7:32 AM, in the quiet of the morning, the angels, archangels and my Guardian angel surrounded me and carried me to the Heavenly Kingdom. I took my final breath at the place in which I was born, 1835 Brighton Road. I have now left this Earth after 95 years to be with God, Our Heavenly Father, Jesus, Our Brother and Savior and the Blessed Mother of Jesus, Blessed Mary, my friend and confidant. As practicing Catholics we believe in the Saints, Angels, and Archangels and their many interventions, the Resurrection of the Body, the forgiveness of sins and the life of the world to come. Today, I will be with my beloved husband of 61 years, my friend for 67, my “Hab.” Oh how I have longed to see his handsome face again, to feel his embrace and to reunite with my family members that have gone before me, marked with the Sign-of-Faith. Heaven’s reception line will include a testimony to the Price-Shingleton families, including my mother and father, Albert A. “Bert” and Lorena, “Reenie” Price, my dear brothers, Emery, Ken, and Paul and of course my special sister, Mary “Mae” and my only Son-In-Law, Leo Cipriani. Our reunion will not only comprise the Price’s and the Shingleton’s but the Biggins, Black, Fennick, and McFadden clans. Mum and Pup, Mary Louise, Ralph and Howard, Jim and Lil, Dick and Dorie, Russell, Bill and Dorothy, with Catherine, Gloria and Jean. Also there will be Tommy and David, Flip and Speedy, Billy Joe, Tim, Frank Huddy and of course Sam and Helen. Oh so many friends and relatives from our days in Ellwood City and Wiley Hill. Of my seven children, one of my babies died before birth as I will hold her again. I leave behind my boys and my daughter, my brother Gerald “Gerry” Price, in whom I embraced the responsibility and pleasure of raising when he was 12 years-of-age, upon the death of our mother. I say goodbye to my daughters-in-law, my nieces and nephews – rest assured that I will watch over you. I confidently leave behind my son Dennis, who has championed the medical needs and assistance for me and Hab. The Heavenly Father has blessed Hab and I with 14 Grandchildren and 12 Great-Grandchildren. So a special goodbye to my other daughter, Cindy, and to Mike, Bonnie and Donna Lynn, Patrick and Mabyn, Kevin and Maria, Mark and Jean. Those precious grandchildren that now advance the Price-Shingleton name: Megan, Brennen, Molly, Kristin, Casey, Tyler, Paul, Michael, Katie, Spencer, Kelsey, Jonathon, Carly, and A.J., and great grandchildren;  Maggie, Joe, Emma, Amelia, Kendall, Natalie, Connor, Ella, Sean, Owen, Tobin, and Alexa.  To my only daughter, Maureen – Re” – at my side for these many years as I too have been at her side and the special gift of her daughter, Kristin, in whom Hab and I had the pleasure to guide, blessed now by her husband Tim as I leave these words…. “Peace Be With You.” Most especially… I say goodbye to another sister, Alwyna Wilson Price, my life-long and dearest friend in whom I will greatly miss. I would be remiss if I didn’t extend my appreciation to Dr. Milton Caplan who was with me for my seven children and for so many medical needs for me and my family. During my end-time Carol Shoaf was of tremendous assistance to me as I was for her. To the marvelous staff, attendants and assistance at Franciscan Manor in Beaver Falls, thank-you and to the Franciscan Priests and Brothers throughout the world that have helped so many. A special hug and kiss to Gary and Carrie Shingleton who never forgot my birthday or Hab’s and provided warmth to our lives. To all of those that have graced my parents home, known as “1835 ,” and to all of those that enjoyed our numerous occasions of fun, excitement and festivities, “1835” was more than wood, stone and mortar, it represented the true meaning of “family.” As I have embraced the moments of assisting and healing to so many of you, from our kitchen table, with the aroma of homemade bread and cookies, complimented by tea or coffee in your “mug on the wall, ” you too have showered me as well with love and kindness. The Holy Father blessed me with so many heartbeats in assistance to others that have sought my talents and assignments from dresses and gowns, and the mending of clothing, and the repair of hearts and minds. I asked my children, years ago, of my desire to die in the house in which I was born and the home built by my parents. I also requested the Rites of the Roman Catholic Church and the recitation of the Holy Rosary in remembrance of me. In closing, when we die a part of us goes with that person and we are never the same but the greatest gift of love that God gives to us is the gift of grieving… I love you now and will love you for eternity.” Shirley Ilene Price Shingleton, Mom, Aunt Shirley, Grandma Shirley

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, November 30 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home, 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church at 10:00 am with Rev. Father Mark Thomas as celebrant. Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Catholic Cemetery Brighton Road, Ellwood City. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to a fund established for the great grandchildren’s education.
