Shirley M. Zak, 84, of Snake Run Road, Wampum (Shenango Twp) died on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the Haven Nursing Home following a brief illness.
Shirley was born on September 12, 1928 in New Castle, PA, the daughter of the late Raymond and Nell Bowles Fortney.
She was married to Theodore “Ted” Zak for 53 years. He died July 24, 2000.
Shirley was an active member of the Polish White Eagles Club in Chewton. At the Polish club she was formerly secretary, president, auxiliary member and played for the women’s pool team where she served as captain. She was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the VFW 315 in New Castle and the American Legion 749 in Wampum. She enjoyed gardening but her most precious time was spent with her family. She was a member of the former St. Monica Church in Wampum.
Survivors include 5 daughters – Linda and husband Gary Mayberry of Shenango Twp, Shirley and husband Daniel Milnes of Beaver Falls, Joan Graham, Barbara and husband Mark DePietro, Theodora and husband Carl Stephenson, all of Shenango Twp; 2 sisters – Darlene Dolly Mcknight of Austintown, OH, Wilma Sager of AL; 2 brothers – Donald Fortney of Edinburg, Phillip Fortney of AL; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, Edith, in 1960 4 brothers Robert, Ed, Richard, and William Fortney, and 2 sisters, Grace Coblentz and Helen Markusic.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday October 19, 2012 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home, 341 Main Street Wampum.
A Blessing Service will be held at the Marshall Funeral Home, Inc. on October 20, 2012 at 11:00 am .
Interment will follow in the Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
