Steve Burcik, 92, of Hutter Ave., Ellwood City passed away peacefully at his home with his family at his side on Tuesday, January 10, 2017.
Born December 31, 1924 in Finleyville, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Ignatowicz Burcik. Steve was married for 65 years to Evelyn Kniess Burcik who survives.
Steve retired after 38 years of service from Babcox and Wilcox where he worked in the pickle house. He served his country in the Army during WWII. Steve was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Middle Lancaster, and Ellwood City’s Moose Club and Masonic Lodge # 599. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bird watching. He had an extraordinary gift of being able to fix anything.
In addition to his wife, Evelyn, survivors include daughter, Karen (Donald) Miller Covert; daughter in law, Patty Miller; sister, Catherine Pander; brother, Joseph Burcik, all of Ellwood City; five grandchildren, Jeff and Lonnie Shaffer, Holli Krause, Kristian and Justin Miller; and seven great grandchildren, Raquel, Megan, Madison, and Jered Shaffer, and Hailey, Zack and Brendan Miller.
He was preceded in death by a son, Barry Miller, two sisters, Mary Slavic and Helen Konyak, and a brother, Mike Burcik.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday January 13 from 4-7 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City. Friends will also be received at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 am until the time of the funeral service at 11 am. Nathaniel Christman, Interim Pastor at Zion and Rev. Peggy Suhr-Barkley of Trinity Lutheran will officiate the services. Military rites will be offered by the Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery.
