Virgil E. Coonfare, 67, of New Castle died on Monday, November 25, 2013 in the Emergency Room of Jameson Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
Born November 28, 1945 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, he was the son of the late Vern H. and Mary I. Malone Coonfare.
Virgil was a member of St. Vitus Church in New Castle. He was a Veteran of the Army serving during the Vietnam Era as a Paratrooper with the 101st Airborne.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Barbati Coonfare; three sons, Michael (Kendra) Coonfare, John D. Coonfare and Chad A. Coonfare, all of New Castle; four brothers and seven sisters, Vern H. (Cathy) Coonfare Jr. of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Mary Ruth (Jim) Drake of Fan Tan Village, Arizona, Alice Abrams of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Lorna Stadnik of Aliquippa, Verla Fox of New Brighton, Dale Coonfare of Wampum, Lawrence (Renee) Coonfare of Poland, Ohio, Colletta (Bob) Vessels of Bellaire, Ohio, Pat (Tony) Morriello of Christiana, Tennessee, Pam Coonfare of Memphis, Tennessee, Steve (Joyce) Coonfare of Wampum, sister in law, Amelia Coonfare of Sun City Arizona; and two grandchildren, Lauren Emily and Gabriel V. “Gabe” Coonfare.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest and John Coonfare and an infant daughter.
Visiting hours will be held from 5-8 pm on Friday November 29 at the Marshall Funeral Home 341 Main Street Wampum. Military rites will be offered by the New Castle Veterans Honor Guard at 7:45 pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Saturday at St. Vitus Church with Rev. Frank Almade officiating.
Interment will follow in Parkside Cemetery.
