Virginia Snyder Widdowfield

Virginia Snyder Widdowfield, 86, of  Ashberry Lane, New Castle (Neshannock Twp.) died on  Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the Jameson Memorial Hospital following a one week illness.

Born June 11, 1926 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Charles R.  and Lena B. Kelly Aiken.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years,  John C. “Jack” Snyder who passed away on March 27, 2000, her second husband, H. Leslie Widdowfield who passed away on July 8, 2005 and a brother, James Aiken.

Virginia graduated as the Valedictorian of the Wampum High School Class of 1944.  She first worked for Bell Telephone.  She then worked and retired from the Department of Public Assistance in New Castle where she was the switchboard operator and receptionist.  She was a member of the Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church.  She was an active member for many years at the former First Christian Church in New Castle.  She was an active participant in many activities conducted by Challenges in New Castle and was a member of TOPS-Eastbook Chapter.  She also volunteered at the Jameson Care Center.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Elaine (Jay) Friedman of College Park, MD; a son, J. Randall “Randy” (Lisa) Snyder of Union Twp.; and two  grandchildren, Kylee (Ken) West of Gaithersburg, MD and Rory Snyder of Union Twp.

Visiting hours will be held on  Friday March 22, 2013 from 3 -5 and 7-9 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 341 Main Street Wampum.

Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 11:00 am with her pastor,  Rev. Chris Weichman officiating.

Interment will follow in Clinton Cemetery.
