Vivienne Bauder Magee

Vivienne Bauder Magee, devoted wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2014. She was surrounded by the warmth of her loving family.

She was the wife of Dr. Donald A. Magee with whom she recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.  Since 1979, Vivienne was the proprietress of Vivienne’s Antiques and Abundance, a gift shop in Portersville, PA.

Born Vivienne Gaye Bauder on May 21, 1934, and the daughter of Donald K. and Claribel McConahay Bauder, she was a lifelong resident of Ellwood City, PA. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School where she was a majorette for the Wolverine Marching Band. Later, she graduated from the Barbizon Modeling School in New York City. Vivienne was extremely active in community affairs and was especially involved with the Girl Scouts of America, having served as the President of the Beaver-Castle Girl Scout Council for eight years. She was instrumental in developing Canoe Trails into a nationally prominent organization for the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts of America. Vivienne was a long-time member of Christ Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a Founding Member of the Town & Country Garden Club, a member of the Junior Women’s Club and a Life Member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, D.A. (Jennifer) Magee of Greenville, MS, her daughter Erin (Allen) Castner of Mendham, NJ, her daughter Vivienne Reber of Grand Rapids, MI, and her daughter Megan (Renae Brinza) Magee of Pittsburgh. In addition, she is survived by eight grandchildren: Blake Hamilton Magee of Memphis, TN, Madeline Clare Magee of Oxford, MS, Christopher Tyler Lehmann of Portland, OR, Lauren Magee Lehmann of Portland, OR, and Allen (Allison) Castner, II, Morgan Magee Castner, Chelsea Zacharias Castner, and Clayton Clare Castner, all of Mendham, NJ. Vivienne also recently met her first great-grandchild, Nathan Allen Castner of Mendham, NJ. She is also survived by her sister, Virginia Bauder (Dale) Kline, her brother David (Janet) Bauder, and numerous nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Donald R. Bauder, and her sons-in-law, Christopher Lehmann and David Reber.

A service to celebrate Vivienne’s life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, January 6 at the Christ Presbyterian Church, 325 Spring Avenue, Ellwood City.Her family will receive friends at the Church prior to the service, from 10:00-11:30. Her pastor, Rev. Tod Custer will officiate. A private interment will follow the service.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made in her name to the Western Pennsylvania Girl Scouts of America, 30 Isabella St., Pittsburgh, PA, 15212 or to Christ Presbyterian Church, 325 Spring Avenue, Ellwood City, PA 16117.
