William Arthur Fischer

Our much loved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, William (Bill) Arthur Fischer was taken home to spend eternity with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, August 7, 2016 in Hilton, NY.

Bill was born in Blue Island, IL, on January 1st, 1923. He was married on June 5, 1945 to the love of his life, Constance M. Vota Fischer, who died on December 22, 2000 after more than 55 years of marriage. At the time of their wedding, he was a Gunner’s Mate Third Class in the Navy and she was a Private First Class in the Marines.

Upon discharge from the Navy in 1945, he was apprenticed as a meat-cutter and worked in that trade until he retired in 1984. After retirement, Bill and Connie moved from Kensington, MD to Ellwood City, PA to be near their family. He became a member of Concord United Methodist Church in North Sewickley Township, where he was a part of the Growing Wise Sunday School Class. He also was very involved with the Concord youth program for many years. In later years, he became active in Dayspring Harvest Ministries in Ellwood City.

In his retirement years, he became a skilled woodworker and an avid reader. His favorite book was the Bible which he read through four times a year. His other great joy was spending time with his family. In 2012, he moved with his daughter and son-in-law to Hilton, NY.

Bill is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Bob Galvin of Hilton, NY; a son-in-law, Gary Sprankle of Tucson, AZ; four grandchildren, Darcy Rapoza and husband (Mat), Christy Sadecki and husband(David), Bill and David Sprankle; great grandchildren, Drew and Brianna Sadecki and Aiden and Isabella Rapoza.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy Sprankle.

A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday at the Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery with Pastor John Phipps officiating. A Memorial Service will be held at the Concord United Methodist Church for friends and family at a later date.
