William L. Shaffer

William L. Shaffer, 67, of  Newport Rd. Wampum  (New Beaver Boro) died on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at UPMC Mercy Hospital following a short  illness.

Born September 6, 1944 in Ellwood City, PA,  he was the son of the late Russell W. Shaffer and Rosella Herring Shaffer Smith of Zelienople .

He was married for 40 years to JoAnn Price Shaffer when she passed away in 2008.

Bill owned and operated Shaffer’s Exxon in Frisco until 1981.  He also worked as  a mechanic at King’s Motors in New Castle for fifteen years.  He drove truck for four years too.  Bill was a member of the First Christian Church in Ellwood City.  He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1967.  Bill was a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 720 in Mt Jackson.  He enjoyed fishing, camping, drag racing, NASCAR, reading and traveling.  He loved football, especially the Steelers, going to soccer games and swim meets.  His most precious time spent was with his grandchildren and their families.

In addition to his mother, Rosella, survivors include two daughters – Jodi (John) Biedka of Minerva, Ohio, Joyce (Michael) Myers of Wampum; a sister – Carol (Greg) Wood of Wexford; eight grandchildren – Amanda, Amber and Stephen Biedka, Michael Savage, Charles Kaufman Jr., Jason, Sean and Matthew Myers; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, wife, and a daughter, Lee Ann Shaffer in 1972.

Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 on Thursday June 7, 2012 at the Marshall Funeral Home 341 Main Street Wampum.

Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, June 8, 2012 at 11:00 am with Tom O’Brien, Pastor of the First Christian Church officiating.

Interment will follow in the Clinton Cemetery.
