William P. Skvarla Sr., 93, of Ellwood City passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at his residence.
Born March 24, 1928 in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late Steve and Mary Pavuk Skvarla.
Bill graduated from Lincoln High School in 1947, where he was a member of the gymnastic team, and enlisted in the Air Force, serving from 1948-1952. After his honorable discharge he was employed at the Ellwood Tube Mill, Massa Brothers Construction Company, and B&W in Beaver Falls until his retirement. Following his retirement he was a driver for DART and ACTS. He was a talented bowler, bowling in several leagues in the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s, often averaging over 200 and winning numerous trophies.
Bill married Patricia Leopardo on February 12, 1955 and enjoyed 66 years of marriage. He was a dedicated family man and relished time with his grandkids and great-granddaughter. Whether in person or on an online call, he always smiled and had that twinkle in his eye when speaking to his grandkids. Bill was a very dedicated family man, proud to provide for his family.
Survivors include his wife Patricia, four children: William (Regina) Skvarla Jr. of Saginaw, MI; Janis (Mike) Leiper of Chippewa; Jeff (Cindy) Skvarla of Ellwood City; Joe (Lisa) Skvarla of Coeur D’Alene, ID; six grandchildren Jamie (Jeremy) Sanderlin, Brian Skvarla, Nicole (Joe) Basile; Nicholas Leiper; Kathryn Skvarla and her fiancé Zach Weiben, and Stephen Skvarla; and one great granddaughter Amelia Sanderlin.
He was preceded in death by a sister Mary Skvarla, brother Edward Skvarla, and his stepmother Mary Takacs.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday June 13, 2021 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home, 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at the Holy Redeemer Church on June 14, 2021 at 10:00 am with Father Mark Thomas officiating.
Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
