William R. Nagel, 76, of North Side, Ellwood City passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at his home. Although in ill health, death was unexpected.
Born February 12, 1941 in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late Ralph A. and Margaret Walker Nagel. He was married for 55 years to Georgie Louden Nagel who survives. They were married August 3, 1962.
Bill worked in retail for over 45 years, starting at the Ellwood City G.C. Murphy’s at age 16. From there he went into the management training program, working in various Murphy’s and Murphy’s Mart stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia, before returning home to open the Ellwood City Murphy’s Mart in 1981. He continued as a manager when Ames bought the company, and went on to manage stores in Butler and Grove City. After retiring from Ames in 1999, he enjoyed working in the electrical department at Lowe’s Home Improvement.
Bill was an active member of the United Methodist Church, having served as their former treasurer. He was a member of the United Wesleyan Sunday school class, and a former member of the Ellwood City Lions Club. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, and woodworking, and always looked forward to the annual Carpenter Project.
In addition to his wife, Georgie, survivors include a son, William S. Nagel of Pittsburgh, daughter, Toni Rupenski of Tampa, FL; brother, James E. (Barbara) Nagel of Darlington; two sisters, Norma Koach of Ellwood City, Shirley (Daniel) States of Muskogee, Oklahoma; two granddaughters, Hannah and Rebecca, and his former son in law, Allen Rupenski of Tampa.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, December 18 from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Marshall Funeral Home 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City. Friends will also be received at the Wurtemburg Methodist Church on Tuesday at from 10 am until the time of the service at 11 am. His pastor, Rev. Chad Bogdewic will officiate. Interment will follow in the Pinewood Memorial Cemetery in Cranberry Twp.
