William S. Ferrucci Sr.

William S. Ferrucci Sr., 83, of West Pittsburg died August 5, 2014 peacefully at his home with his wife and family by his side. He was a devoted member of St. Vincent DePaul Parish in Mahoningtown.

Bill was born August 28, 1930 in Ellwood City. He was a graduate of the Lincoln High School Class of 1948 where he was a member of the Marching Band. Upon graduation he enlisted in the US Navy. Following his discharge he met his beloved wife, the former Barbara Cowher at a square dance at Lakewood Beach. At the time, he commented to his buddies, “I’m going to marry that girl.” He did 16 months later. They raised six children and had a long and happy 62 years of marriage. William retired after 35 years at Jones and Laughlin Steel in Aliquippa and LTV Steel. He was a foreman in the Tin Mill.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; son, Dr. William S. (Cindy) Ferrucci Jr. of Valdese, NC; daughter, Kathleen (Jack) Deloplaine of Anderson, SC; son, Gregory (Carol) Ferrucci of Edinburg; son, Sylvester (Patricia) Ferrucci of Hillsville; daughter, Lori (Terry) Cumberledge of West Pittsburg; and a sister, Donna (Gene) Montozzi of Spring Hill, FL. He is also survived by grandchildren; Kristen (Barrett) Plasman, Daniel Ferrucci, Ryan (Jackie) Deloplaine, Todd Deloplaine, Lucas Ferrucci, Andrew Ferrucci, Russell, Marty and Alan Ferrucci, and Brandon, Katie, Jacob and Mikayla Cumberledge; six great grandchildren, Sam, Sophia, Will, and Charlie Plasman, and Tyler and Chase Deloplaine; and many nieces and nephews.

Bill was a devoted loving husband, father and grandfather.

He loved music and played the accordion in a band for years for square dances and weddings. He loved traveling to Myrtle Beach, SC, Atlantic City, and on many trips with senior citizen groups. He also was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins.

He will be sadly missed by family and friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, Russell “Rusty” Ferrucci on March 18, 1979, his parents, Hazel and Sylvester Ferrucci, his grandparents, Louis and Ethel Ferrucci and Russell and Maude Gilcrest and his mother and father in law, Dan and Clara Cowher Sr.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday August 7 from 4 to 8 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 341 Main Street Wampum. Military rites will be offered by the New Castle Veterans Honor Guard on Friday at 9:15 am at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am at St. Vincent De Paul Parish in Mahoningtown with Rev. Father Frank Almade officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in New Castle.
